Lucy was admitted into the Rowans Hospice after falling ill and not being expected to last the week. Martin & I had rung the Rowans in a panic as the Hospital she was in told us they could do no more for Lucy medically. I spoke to Tracy from Daycare and she took everything over for us which was a relief to us both, Lucy had been attending Daycare for quite a while and had formed a really good friendship with Tracey and all the Team. The Rowans kindly said that Lucy would be admitted to their care, we arrived at the Rowans by ambulance and we both felt a great sense of relief that we were somewhere safe with Lucy. With fantastic medical care Lucy pulled herself round once again. Lucy was under the care of the then Purple team with Jackie as her Primary Carer. The care and friendships Lucy had with the Nurses who laughed and joked with her and included her in their family lives while they cared for her in the time she was in the Rowans will be something Martin and I will never forget. Debbie became a very special person in all our lives with her calm ways but wicked sense of humour, she was with Lucy at the beginning of her stay and with her in her final minutes which was so special to us. Linda also became a big part of Lucys life with her down to earth ways and treating Lucy as a normal girl as they all did. We would like to thank Jill who became her Primary Carer when Lucy became one of the Red Team,Val,Caroline,Jackie,Maggie,All the Helens,Sharon,Jayne,Jane,Sue,Sam,Sarah,Annie,Jeff,Sarah, SpikeySarah,Tina,Hayley,Jane and all the Night Teams, especially putting up with Martin snoring as Lucy used to say Shut up Dad. A special thanks to Juliette for taking such good care of Lucy the night before she passed, I don't think she realised I was awake and aware of her coming in so much. Also big thanks to Maggie Hardcastle and Carrie in Physio for helping Lucy,Maggie knew Lucy as at the time she was our community Physio when Lucy was at home. Maggie became a good friend and a very good listener with good advice, thanks Maggie. Also I'm sorry if we have forgotten to mention anyone by name but we do appreciate everything that you did for Lucy. Not forgetting Fiona I especially thank her for helping Martin on our last day and bossing him around, you were a great strength to us all. Thanks too, to Erika for all her help especially letting the Firemen come to visit Lucy. We can't forget Jenny for all her kind words and for the little waves and talks we had when Lucy was in the room next to her office. Also we can't thank Becky enough for listening to us and for being there for Lucy she loved her time with you as we do,you have become part of our life in a big way. We owe you so many boxes of tissues. Big thanks go out to all the Doctors,Office Staff,Kitchen Staff,Housekeeping,Simon who had to put up with our room changes and all the Volunteers for making life so comfortable for all our family. I'd like to thank Karen from Housekeeping, she helped me a lot during our time there with kind words and lots of chats. We can't thank the Rowans enough, everyone does a fantastic job to make everyone so at ease and comfortable. Also we can't forget Jo who is a volunteer and was asked if she would become a friend for Lucy. Jo you have become a part of our family as have all at the Rowans, you all have a place in our hearts. Wendy who also volunteers became a good friend to Lucy and she loved seeing her and she became a big help to us also. A special mention must go to Lance,Lucy loved her chats with him and the hugs so she could smell his aftershave. Lance conducted her Service and everyone said how special it was as he knew Lucy so well. Lance knew us as a family so well and we had lots of chats during our time at the Rowans which we will never forget. Can we also mention Helen Bence she was our community OT but she made the time to pop in to see Lucy at the Rowans and have a chat and laugh with Lucy. Also once again Helen became a friend and we are so grateful for all her help. Lucy would have been so proud to see so many of you from the Rowans at her service. As a family we can't tell you how much it meant to us all and how special we felt for Lucy.
