It was just another day in my life as an Occupational Therapist. There I was, driving to Compton Road to meet a ‘new client’ with a physiotherapy colleague – Maggie. Maggie reported that this ‘client’ was unsure about meeting new people and so she would be there to introduce me. Little did I know at that point that you Lucy, and I, would know each other for nearly 2 years. Had we been blessed with longer then I am sure that we would have continued to laugh together as we travelled on our way through your illness. I was welcomed into your home and was confronted with cuddly toys and pictures of Boyzone – I knew that we would get along just fine! Every time I visited you, you always had a smile. You never complained and were willing to try anything, but you certainly knew your own mind and what you wanted! I am sure there were days when you felt to so poorly that you didn’t want to see anyone, but you never let it show. There were many challenges along the way – for you, your Mum and Dad and for me too. You were the subject of many supervision sessions I had with my boss! I am so sorry Lucy that you were not able to stay at home, but I know that you were in the next best place at Rowans. I really enjoyed visiting you there – you and Mum and Dad all looked so much more rested and calm. Not only have I learnt from you, but I have enjoyed working with you and your family. I will always talk of you and tell your story to colleagues and students. You touched the hearts and minds of so many people in your life – something that many people don’t ever achieve in twice the time that they are on this earth. You were, and still are, such a special lady. Lots of love, Helen x
